Preparing for Our Virgin River Tubing Adventure
As we planned our Utah adventure, tubing down the Virgin River seemed the perfect mix of fun and exploration. Initially, I had looked into several tubing spots before the trip but ultimately decided to stay flexible. Consequently, as we approached Mt. Zion, several options caught our eye. Finally, Zion Tubing was our choice because it was conveniently located on our route to the park’s south entrance and close to our Airbnb.
Virgin River Tubing: A Family-Friendly Adventure
Zion River Tubing uniquely provides an opportunity to explore the natural beauty surrounding Zion National Park. Located in Virgin, Utah, this adventure combines relaxation with excitement, making it suitable for all ages. Participants float down the river in large inflatable tubes, navigating through calm waters and occasionally encountering gentle rapids. Importantly, this activity is excellent for connecting with nature, enjoying the scenery, and cooling off on a hot day.
Accessibility and Location: Virgin River Tubing’s Convenient Setup
Zion River Tubing operates from the Buffalo Trails Trading Post parking lot in Virgin, Utah. This location makes it a convenient stop for visitors heading to Zion’s south entrance. Although the company allows walk-up bookings if spots are available, it is advisable to book in advance to secure a spot.
Virgin River Tubing Fees and Services
The tubing experience costs $35 plus tax per person. This fee includes a high-quality tube with a backrest and handles, enhancing comfort and safety. Moreover, children aged 12 and under can receive life jackets upon their parents’ request. Additionally, a shuttle service transports participants from the parking area to the river’s start point and picks them up at the end of their journey in less than five minutes. Thus, this service allows tubers to enjoy their river experience without worrying about logistics.
Safety Protocols: Ensuring a Safe Journey
Safety is the top priority at Zion Tubing. Each adventure starts with detailed safety instructions to ensure everyone is prepared. The conditions on the Virgin River can vary significantly. At times, the water is low, and tubers may bump into rocks. Conversely, at other times, the water is high and fast, which can eject tubers from their tubes. Therefore, it’s crucial that all tubers can handle their tubes alone and re-enter them if they fall out. Only one person per tube is allowed for safety. Parents can hold onto their children’s tubes, but children cannot sit with adults on a tube. Only company-provided tubes are used to ensure compliance with safety standards. Additionally, life jackets are available for children upon a parent’s request.
The Virgin River Tubing Experience: Navigating Nature’s Path
Our adventure on the Virgin River provided a refreshing escape from Utah’s summer heat. We floated through breathtaking scenery; the river’s gentle currents made the ride steady and enjoyable. Nevertheless, large rocks in several areas added an element of adventure. My daughter took an active role in navigating these challenges; she frequently exited her raft to clear a path.
Learning Through Experience
Despite the calmness of the river, some sections were rougher and required us to stay securely inside our rafts. During one challenging section, my daughter jumped out and got a minor cut from a rock, thereby reminding us of the river’s unpredictability.
Virgin River Tubing Memories
After our tubing trip, we shared stories and laughter as we dried off and settled back into our car. The trip was lively and filled with laughter. However, it was less relaxing than I had hoped because I was unprepared. For our next adventure, I will bring a hiking stick, a dry bag, and snacks for my daughter to enhance our experience. I even considered packing headphones for her to enjoy music as we drifted. Although this trip was more about having fun and making memories, a quieter experience is definitely possible on the Virgin River. Just remember to bring essentials like a hat, sunblock, and water shoes for comfort and safety. Despite the initial challenges, the trip was a fantastic way to cool off and enjoy our time in Utah.
